The towers shown here in this view of Teruel in the mountainous region of Aragon are probably those of the 12th century cathedral of Santa Maria de Mediavilla, a notable example of Mudéjar architecture. As in her watercolour, Street in Albarracin, the view here is built from clear blocks of colour and the faceted rock face is modelled with a patchwork of tones. The colours of the landscape are heightened to almost unnatural hues giving a visual tension between contrasting tones.
